Sermon Notes

This morning we are looking at two of the most misunderstood things that Jesus did during his 3-year ministry: the cursing of a fig tree and the driving out of the money changers and others from the Temple.

Our small group study calls Jesus’ cursing of the fig tree a miracle and it is according to the biblical definition of a miracle. It is the only miracle of Jesus that destroyed something rather than bringing healing and wholeness.

But what was his reason for doing this? Was He angry because it didn’t have any fruit on it and he was hungry so He destroyed it? No, there is a deeper meaning to this that goes along with His overturning the tables of the money changers in the Temple. They are two object lessons that Jesus uses to teach us one truth.
